Curriculum

BJTELA not only offers a quality academic and social/emotional educational experience for children from birth to five but also provides numerous services that support and strengthen the well-being of children and families. We partner with you in your endeavors of success for you and your children to support all areas of life, including school, work, and health. Our 0-3 program offers a nurturing and stimulating experience for babies, focusing on the relevance of brain development and attachment in the first few years of life. The 3-5 preschool provides “school readiness” for elementary school and a strong foundation for growth, emphasizing academic and social/emotional skills. TELA uses the Creative Curriculum through different modalities that we have at the Academy. Creative Curriculum guides staff through the educational domains as well as the social/emotional domain, which is a significant factor in school success.

All children at TELA receive individualized education according to their developmental needs and are screened to ensure they are receiving the appropriate services. All TELA teachers use Teaching Strategies Gold, an ongoing, observation-based assessment system that documents children’s learning over time in all developmental areas. This tool enables teachers to focus on and measure the knowledge, skills, and behaviors most predictive of school success. We also contract with a mental health specialist, a music therapist, and a speech therapist who provides services to our children, if needed. The Tulalip culture and the Lushootseed language are incorporated in all classrooms, ensuring that children receive this essential component of their heritage. The teaching staff works closely with our family advocates, who connect with families to provide resources, services, goal setting, and support. TELA’s world-class comprehensive early learning program is continually recruiting new families to join us.
